What's up fans? We are back for one of five final episodes. It's been five years since we started this endeavor, and now, it's time to bring it to an end. The Topicocalypse Apocalypse has begun.

On the first part of our final episodes, we have the entire crew, spanning from all of the many decades of the podcast back together to discuss the American workforce and why so many people are leaving it. While COVID has displaced many, has it also given them time to think about their lives and what exactly they want to do with them. A recent American worker survey suggests that this is the beginning of many changes.

I’ve been taking some time lately, to go back and watch the anime series I grew up with. As a novel writer, going back to my inspirations has been the key to “reawakening” my creativity, especially in these hectic times, where just stepping out your front door is like going on a walk with sorrow and depression. That being said, the noir-like world of The Big O has been a welcome distraction from the strange and terrible things going on in our society. Turning on the box-set blu ray instead of the news has proven to be the best thing I’ve done in the past few weeks.

There are people who fill out paper work for their animals to be service animals just to save money on travel costs. How far will people take the idea of service animals in terms of what kind of animals are allowed to be service animals? We also dive into depression and a video that Danial found on the Internet. Is mental health defined by our circumstances? Animals (dogs especially) love us way more than we deserve. First we talk about Roseanne Barr who went on a racist rant on Twitter and then blamed Ambien. ABC quickly pulled the plug and put a bunch of people out of work. Was this an overreaction? Then we talk about politics on social media. Is it constructive? Do hashtag campagins actually accomplish anything? Everybody has a voice now, but with no solutions being offered up, we've become a society of complaining. Apparently, justice warriors couldn't figure out who was right or wrong about rape culture in this scenario. In Canada, a restaraunt owner wrote veal is the kale outside of his place of business, which made justice warriors mad. We talk about gun violence statistics. And finally we get in on the debate about what caused Toys R Us to close down.

However, the competition is warning people against using their phones because they're allegedly full of Chinese spy-ware. That's ironic, considering that Apple likes to use the iPhone to spy on their customers (we're still getting ads for mannequins). Is this propaganda? From what we've researched, the Huawei is better than the iPhone and Android combined, and here's the kicker . . . it's cheaper. We talk about Huawei phones, propaganda, what's fact and what's fiction.

After reading an article found in the depths of the Internet, Bryan Kane PhD wants to talk about a little (no pun intended) thing called a fat tax. Apparently, Old Navy had gotten in a lot of trouble for charging more money for plus-sized clothing. Does it have anything to do with needing a larger amount of fabric to make the clothing? Probably, but this is 2018 so, emotion and economics aren't exactly on the same page. As it turns out, this is sort of a common thing. In the UK somebody in a nail salon had been using a spa chair and broke it because they exceeded the weight limit. Because the chair costs so much money, the owners of the salon decided to charge larger people double. We talk about the ethics in this, make a few jokes, and try to figure out who is being discriminated against. All of this and more on this episode of Topicocalypse.

We also dig into the emotions and vulnerability that goes into making a successful song, and how a good producer can help it stand out. Special shoutout to Dreambound for helping put them on the map, and the many bands they promote for keeping the genre alive. Justin brings up the band Rush to mutual disdain, and then we talk about the Stanley Cup. The lads from Mayfield are fans of the Ottawa Senators, while the Justin and Josh are Los Angeles Kings fans, but we find common ground in a shared dislike of the Anaheim Ducks. Speaking of Oscar's those happened and Guillermo Del Toro won a bunch of awards of the Shape of Water, and Blade Runner 2049 won a couple of awards. Welcome back Topicocalypse fans! It's Valentines Day and if you're reading this, you're probably just as single as we are, which means you have time to listen to this podcast. We're joined by a very special guest and first time podcaster Nicole Noonan, who made us think about things that don't involve Fred Durst and Alex Jones impersonations.

On this episode Josh opens up by telling us a story about a movie that he and his brother bonded over called Spring. Check it out on Amazon Prime today. Anyway, Josh and his brother loved this movie, but after his brother got married, his wife told him that he was no longer allowed to watch it because some of the movie seemed "demonic" and they're both slightly fanatical in the religion category. This leads to Josh's question to the rest of the table, is it ever okay to give up something that inspires you for your significant other or your reputation? This also leads into a conversation about some of history's greatest pulp-fiction writers (not the Quentin Tarantino film) like Robert E. Howard, Edgar Rice Burrough, and more modern pulp writers like Mike Mignola, who write about heroes who are deeply flawed and sometimes dabble in dark things, but it's always to save lives. Point and case Mike Mignola's Hellboy comics, which some people boycot because of what Hellboy is. As an artist where do you draw the line between your peer group, reputation and your ability to succeed? We talk about all of this and more on this episode of Topicocalypse.

Bryan Kane PhD read about a man who traveled the world for six months, with no phone or Internet and something about the man's blog spoke to him. He started to ask himself if he's paying too much attention to his phone, and what other people are doing rather than living in the moment. After spending some time at a vineyard and trying to take the perfect picture for snapchat, he had an out of body experience and decided that he needed to be more present in his own life, which means not looking for approval and likes on social media and spending more time with his friends and family. So he did the unthinkable and deleted his social media profiles. This gets us talking about social media. Are we spending too much time on it? By living vicariously through other people, are we being present in our own lives? Why do we feel like we always need to prove to our peers that we are relevant through platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc? Is social media ruining human connection? We attempt to answer these questions and more on this episode of Topicocalypse. We also breifly argue over how to pronounce vineyard? And we are the first podcast to ever make a Grapes of Wrath joke.

As it turns out musicians like Taylor Swift, Tool, Garth Brooks, Pete Townshend, Jason Aldean, Thom Yorke (of Radiohead), Prince (RIP), Bob Seger, The Beatles and several others hold out on streaming services because they hardly make anything from them. So instead, they make albums exclusive to Target, Walmart, and self-owned digital services. This gets us into discussions about the Breakfast Club, Underworld Evolution Maynard James Keenan (of Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer), iHeart Radio, Napster, piracy and other topics. Josh also impersonates Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit, and the guys argue about the difference between Vinyl and Digital. All of this plus a brief discussion of U2 and their unorthodox methods of getting people to listen to their newest music (like sneaking it into your iTunes library).

Every once in a while a topic comes along that needs no description, because it's exactly what the title suggests. This is one of those topics. On this episode of Topicocalypse, Big Dawg JLen came across a story on the Internet about a guy who needed a poop knife. What's a poop knife, you ask? A poop knife is used to carve poop into smaller peices so it'll flush. Apparently he thought that everybody has poop knives and was surprised to find out that he was wrong. After embarassing himself in front of some friends, he recalls the tale that made him an Internet sensation. Don't worry, though, this entire podcast isn't about poop . . . just most of it. This gets a discussion going about things that our family members do that they thought was normal and our most embarassing poop stories.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now in theaters, and while the box office numbers have been good, the reception has been a mixed bag of nuts, creating a large divide between fans, critics and millennial bloggers. Some people think Rian Johnson hates Star Wars, and other people think he breathed new life into the Star Wars saga by turning it on its head. What do we think? That's what we'd like to find out. Don't worry, though, we won't be taking a Fox News or CNN approach to this review.
